GARABOU WOLOF
Garabou Wolof means "Traditional medicines" in the Wolof language

This exhibition brings back memories of the story of my life: a life in interaction with nature; a medicinal life... These canvases are made of organic materials often used for traditional medicine in Senegal and Africa in general ; root leaves or tree barks… their use as a medicinal remedy is the subject of this exhibition. With this show I wish to pay  homage to my ancestors... an homage to their knowledge and to their attention to nature... Today this practice is becoming more and more rare in Africa, which is why I use these pigments. I see them as dead tree’s ashes which i would bring back to life by using them on my canvases..I do not only consider these paintings as pure works of art… they are the sounds of nature…and the power of natural colors. In this exhibition each artwork can be seen as a page of a book that one simply needs to learn how to read it... like a medical prescription...
