OF INSECTS AND OTHER CREATURES 27. April 2018 - 14. July 2018

Melli Ink presents the exhibition "Of Insects and Other Creatures" within the framework of the Gallery Weekend Berlin 2018.

In recollection to Melli Ink´s previous work as a set designer, the artist combines a new body of work during her first solo exhibition at the Michael Fuchs Galerie which is based on her performance video work "Gregor and the Samsas" and draws on Kafka´s "Verwandlung", with a new series of surreal looking glass sculptures. They in itself contrast the beauty as well as the fragility of its mouth-blown material with the repulsive appeal of creature´s forms such as bugs, mites and other insects. "Happy Monsters" is the name the artist chose for her series of colored glass objects. 

Melli Ink prefers to work in areas of tension between sculpture and staging that relate to the historic, aesthetic and artisanal manifestation of the history of civilization which the artist then reinterprets in a humorous and clever way. The exhibition space of the Ehemalige Jüdische Mädchenschule literally turns into a playground of a multilayered and bright staging of her objects and art work on paper.
