Girbent
* 1966 in Sóller
In 1986, he enrolled in the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona.
He soon dropped out of university and for a time was seen in the bohemian atmosphere of the Mediterranean city. During this time, he devoted himself to watching films and reading, especially essays and philosophy.
In 1989, he traveled to the former GDR and managed to enroll in the famous Leipzig Art Academy, where he met M. Weischer and T. Baumgartel. The fall of the Berlin Wall surprised him in Leipzig. In 1990, he exhibited his first paintings in the group exhibition The Wall, in an alternative space in Berlin.
At the same time, he explored the world of comics and illustration, publishing both comics and covers in the world's leading magazines, such as Totem and Zona 84 in Spain, El Eternauta in Italy, Metal Hurlant in France, and Heavy Metal in the US.
A year later, he left Germany and traveled to Mexico City, where he explored the possibilities of video, filming in places frequented by the Infrarealists, such as the "Quito" café on Bucarelli Street. In Mexico, he continued to read compulsively, but his interest shifted from essays to literature: Borges, Gadda, Pessoa, Joyce...
At the same time, his interest in video art and experimental film grew. He spent the years 1992 and 1993 in the Yucatán Peninsula, first settling in Mérida and then in Valladolid. After what he considered his reflective period in Mexico, he decided to return to his native Mallorca to devote himself to painting.
